The Pitt Rivers Museum is delighted to receive recognition for its Maasai Living Cultures project, which has this month been shortlisted for Partnership of the Year in the Museum + Heritage Awards 2025.
Maasai Living is a collaborative project between representatives of the Kenyan and Tanzanian Maasai community and the Pitt Rivers Museum, aimed at building trust and addressing concerns about the portrayal of Maasai culture in museums. It aims to foster knowledge exchange and collaboration between the Maasai community and UK museums, and to build relationships based on respect, trust and deep understanding.
The project has spanned eight years and forms part of the Museum's ongoing work to build equitable relations with Indigenous Peoples whose material culture is represented in the Pitt Rivers collections.
The Museums + Heritage Awards takes place on 15 May 2025 in a ceremony in London.
