Volunteering

Welcome to volunteering at the Gardens, Libraries, and Museums (GLAM)

We are very grateful to our volunteers, who help to make our spaces and collections more welcoming, interesting, and open to all. Each year, more than 500 volunteers contribute more than 20,000 hours to helping in public-facing and behind-the-scenes roles across the:

  • Ashmolean
  • Bate Collection of Musical Instruments
  • Botanic Garden and Harcourt Arboretum
  • History of Science Museum
  • Museum of Natural History
  • Pitt Rivers Museum
  • Weston Library

Keep scrolling for more information about our volunteers, what they do, and how you can get involved; plus, have a look at our other webpages by following the links in the boxes at the bottom of the page.

The Volunteer Service hopes that volunteers enjoy sharing their enthusiasm, building their confidence, developing their skills, and meeting new people in an inspiring, supportive environment.

To give a better sense of who our volunteers are, we asked some of them to choose an object significant to their volunteering and then briefly write about it. Read some of their stories by clicking the link below.
