Volunteering

Welcome to volunteering at the Gardens, Libraries, and Museums

We are very grateful to our volunteers who help to make our spaces and collections more welcoming, interesting, and open to all. Each year, more than 500 volunteers together give more than 20,000 hours to helping in public-facing and behind-the-scenes roles across the:

  • Ashmolean
  • Bate Collection of Musical Instruments
  • Botanic Garden and Harcourt Arboretum
  • History of Science Museum
  • Museum of Natural History
  • Pitt Rivers Museum
  • Weston Library

The Volunteer Service hopes that volunteers enjoy sharing their enthusiasm, building their confidence, developing their skills, and meeting new people in an inspiring, supportive environment.

We're proud of the diversity of our international volunteer community at GLAM. We've spoken with some of our volunteers and collected their stories on the following page.
