Supporting Leadership is a research and knowledge exchange project examining the role of executive and administrative support staff in the cultural sector. Information is being gathered through a digital consultation which will be open until the end of August 2019. The findings will be analysed by the project team and a final report will be produced which willl be free to download from this website.
The digital consultation for the Supporting Leadership project is now closed.
Who can take part?
This project focuses on individuals working in the cultural sector. We would like to consult with both current and former executive assistants (including individuals holding different titles in similar roles, working to support senior staff members) and the leaders they support and welcome participation from all who believe the project to be of relevance to their work.
We have designed three different parallel surveys, one each for:
- current executive and administrative support staff
- leaders (directors and senior managers) who are supported by these staff
- former executive and administrative support staff who have since moved into different roles or sectors
How can I take part?
The surveys need to be completed online. We are providing a unique access code for every participant to ensure the security and anonymity of responses.
Please email firstname.lastname@example.org to request a link to the surveys and a passcode.
The surveys are different lengths - we expect the surveys for current and former executive and administrative support staff to take 20-30 minutes. The survey for leaders can be completed in approximately 10 minutes, but will take more time if you are willing to provide more detailed answers. All of the surveys have the option to 'Finish Later' if needed.
What kind of information is being collected?
The surveys will collect information about you as an individual, about your organisation and your role, about your experiences of working as or with members of executive and administrative support staff, and about training and development opportunities for this staff group.
The questions in the survey ask for detailed information to help us to build the best possible picture of this staff group in order to be able to identify and make recommendations to improve best practice across the sector. All of the questions are optional, if you choose to participate it will be up to you to decide how much information you would like to share.
How will the information be used?
The responses to the survey questions will form a single large data pool and all contributions will remain anonymous. Numerical and demographic data will contribute to sets of statistics. Individual responses to open questions will be analysed by hand in order to identify trends and common themes. Quotes may be used within the final report but these will not be attributed to individuals or institutions (and will not be used if it would be possible from the contents of the quote to identify the individual or institution).
The responses to the survey questions will enable us to identify and share best practice and will enable us to define training and development requirements for this staff group. The findings of the project will be published in a final report in November 2019, the report will be free to download.
