Supporting Leadership Digital Consultation

Supporting Leadership is a research and knowledge exchange project examining the role of executive and administrative support staff in the cultural sector. Information was gathered through a digital consultation which closed at the end of August 2019. The findings will be analysed by the project team and a final report will be produced which will be free to download from this website.

Please note: The digital consultation for the Supporting Leadership project is now closed.

Who can take part?

This project focuses on individuals working in the cultural sector. We consulted with both current and former executive assistants (including individuals holding different titles in similar roles, working to support senior staff members) and the leaders they support and welcomed participation from all who believe the project to be of relevance to their work.

We designed three different parallel surveys, one each for:

  • current executive and administrative support staff
  • leaders (directors and senior managers) who are supported by these staff
  • former executive and administrative support staff who have since moved into different roles or sectors

How will the information be used?

The responses to the survey questions will form a single large data pool and all contributions will remain anonymous. Numerical and demographic data will contribute to sets of statistics. Individual responses to open questions will be analysed by hand in order to identify trends and common themes. Quotes may be used within the final report but these will not be attributed to individuals or institutions (and will not be used if it would be possible from the contents of the quote to identify the individual or institution).

The responses to the survey questions will enable us to identify and share best practice and will enable us to define training and development requirements for this staff group. The findings of the project will be published in a final report in March 2020, the report will be free to download.
