Postdoctoral research opportunities with GLAM

Research at Oxford University’s Gardens, Libraries and Museums (GLAM) covers a wide range of subjects. These include anthropology, classics, history, archaeology, palaeontology, plant sciences, zoology, and many others.

We welcome enquiries from postdoctoral researchers who are working with collections in relevant fields and who are interested in holding an externally funded fellowship at our world‑class institutions.

We are pleased to offer advice and support to applicants for independent research fellowships, including but not limited to:

If you are interested in applying for funding for a fellowship, please contact the GLAM Research & Impact team (research@glam.ox.ac.uk), who will connect you with the relevant departmental research lead.

For applications for all funding schemes apart from the Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowships – for which GLAM has a separate internal process – a summary research proposal and academic or narrative CV should be provided at least four months in advance of the scheme submission deadline.

For applications for Leverhulme Early Career Fellowships, potential applicants should contact a GLAM departmental (research) host prior to application by the July before the intended year of submission (e.g. July 2026 for a February 2027 submission). The GLAM Head of Research & Impact Management should also be contacted at the same time. Prospective fellows will submit a draft of their proposal to the GLAM Research Committee in early autumn, and GLAM can choose up to two of the submissions for an allocation of match-funding from the John Fell Fund. The chosen two fellows will continue to prepare their Leverhulme application which has a deadline in early February each year.

Please note that funders may require Oxford University to carry out an internal application process for some schemes.
